The motto is backed with page 8 from, “Saturday Evening,” Canada’s oldest general interest magazine which began publication in 1887 with a format that at 15” x 20”, worked well with the motto’s standard width of 21”. Page 8 includes fashion advice from “Blanche,”, a poem by E. Norman Gunnison who was known for his hymns and a short story by Major Hamilton. If the motto was framed at the time of making then it can be dated to the last 15 years of the century. It could also have been stitched earlier and reframed after the start date of the Saturday Evening.
The pattern incorporates floral and abstract embellishments including a bell shape reminiscent of a curtain pull on either side of , “G.”
