Chintz curtains, ruffles bunched at the top edge, hang heavy. “Forget Me Not,” is perched in the thin space between curtain and ceiling. Beautifully stitched, the words standout on a ribbon like band. “F” is stitched within it’s own oval of white stitching, picking up the beautifully stitched lily of the valley. This distinctive pattern integrates the text within its design and required substantial infill stitching on the decorative elements. Framed in a slender gold frame. This is one of the narrowest mottos and one of a handful on a black pattern paper.
Turn it over and the reverse side shows precise tight stitches and the importance of the black ground as a visual element. The reverse reveals that the black ground was applied as a colour to the front side.
