The cradle headboard was begun in red thread but never finished, leaving a patch of red beside the baby’s mouth that looks like blood. The baby’s coverlet is stitched in an opalescent white thread that draws attention. Celebratory, simple and wonderful perhaps marking a first baby. A pale sunprint of the motto is visible on the manila backing paper. This motto has been taken apart many times for reframing, each time adding a newspaper backing of the era.
